Settled in the heart of Patagonia, Villa La Angostura is a small town surrounded by a breathtaking natural landscape of mountains, lakes and forests. Its peaceful atmosphere and enchanting scenery make it the perfect destination for those seeking an escape from city life. In this article, we will take a closer look at the top five must-visit places in Villa La Angostura.

Having lived here for some time, my dream is for visitors to experience this beautiful corner of Patagonia in the same way that I do. So pack your bags, put on your hiking boots, and get ready to immerse yourself in the charm of this patagonic gem.

So let me be your local guide for a while! If you visit Villa La Angostura you definitely have to know this places (click on their names to get the location):

1.Puerto y miradores. If you go to the port, you will know the reason why this place is named like that. ‘Angostura’ in Spanish means narrow because there is a peninsula and in its narrower point you can see Nahuel Huapi lake by both sides. Also you will find the entrance to Arrayanes National Park. You can go to the ‘miradores’ or viewpoints to bays Mansa and Brava: there is a short trail with some slopes. If you are used to doing some sports, in just one hour you can take it to the top and back.

2. Bosque de arrayanes: by the end of Quetrihué peninsula there is another national park that preserves arrayan trees. This unique forest has its fame for the striking color of the bark of its trees. Also there is a small wooden house, the myth says that Disney was inspired by this place to make Bambi. Although this might not be true, the forest has its own magic. You can reach the place by bike, sailing or a long walk.

If you take it by bike, be sure to have some experience in mountain biking because there are some high slopes and stairs. If you do it entirely by walking, consider it’s 24 km long. I recommend going by sailing, wearing comfortable sneakers and returning by walking 12 km or combine bike & sailing.

3. Correntoso: in this place you will find a lake that flows into a very short river and then to Nahuel Huapi lake. I suggest you visit both: the shortest river of Argentina with its incredible colors and then go for a walk around the beach of the lake. Also in summer you can put your swimming suit on and dive into the lake’s fresh waters.

4. Rio bonito: to enjoy this site I recommend that you prepare a mate and go to the river mouth in Nahuel Huapi Lake. You can go by bike or take an easy walk by the beach.

Also you can park your car in the trailhead and take a walk by the river. I love this last option because you can tell the reason for its name. Were you delighted with this place? How about if I told you this river also has a waterfall upstream? If you decide to visit Rio Bonito’s waterfall you have to go up to Cerro Bayo access.

5. Cascada Inacayal: if you want to feel the adventure and decide to go for a hike, you can visit here. In half an hour you will be at a beautiful viewpoint seeing Correntoso, Nahuel Huapi and cerro 3 Hermanas from the heights. If you still feel like walking you can visit Cascada Inacayal, the tallest waterfall in the area. By one more hour walking into the forest you will be enjoying this place.

Extra value tips:

  • If you walk on trails, be sure to have some experience, good equipment and to tell someone else the trail you are taking: some of these places do not have good signal.
  • Remember you are in a cold mountain weather, it can suddenly change.
  • Also you are in a National Park, be aware of wildlife and meteorological alerts.
  • Do not go off the trail.
  • Always take back all your trash with you.

Villa La Angostura is a magical corner of Patagonia that offers visitors a unique and unforgettable experience. With its stunning natural scenery and welcoming locals, be sure to spend 2 or 3 days around here and visit all the places in the list. So, if you have the opportunity to visit this enchanting town, take the chance to know the places I suggest, you will not regret it.
